Joint statement by the Department of Minerals and Energy, the National Union of Mineworkers and the Chamber of Mines
At a meeting held today, Friday 22 May 2009 in Johannesburg, by the Department of Minerals and Energy, the National Union of Mineworkers and the Chamber of Mines, several concerns were raised by stakeholders about the Codes of Good Practise and the Housing and Living Standards for the mining industry. It was agreed that the existing sub-committees of the Minerals and Mining Development Board, which have been dealing with the Codes and the Standards, would deal with the concerns of the stakeholders in an effort to find common ground. Senior leaders of the three stakeholders would form part of the sub-committees and would report back to the Board, which serves in an advisory capacity to the Minister of Mineral Resources.
