The Chamber of Mines congratulates president Kgalema Motlanthe and the newly appointed members of cabinet and deputy ministers
The acting Chief Executive of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa, Dr Frans Barker, today expressed congratulations to President Kgalema Motlanthe on his election as the president of South Africa and to the newly appointed members of cabinet and deputy ministers.
‘On behalf of the Chamber of Mines and its members, I would like to extend my congratulations to President Kgalema Motlanthe on his election to the highest office in the country. The Chamber is pleased about the swift and decisive manner in which President Motlanthe and his fellow leaders in the ruling party brought calm to the markets after the uncertainty of the past week. If this is any indication of the kind of leadership we are to expect from our third democratically elected President, we are convinced that South Africa will continue to make the economic and political advances started in 1994. We were also delighted by the remarks made by President Motlanthe regarding the continuation of economic policies. The Chamber of Mines is particularly pleased that Ms Buyelwa Sonjica has been re-appointed as minister of minerals and energy, which will ensure the continuance of the positive relationship that the mining industry enjoys with the ministry and also that the implementation of key initiatives in occupational health and safety as well as in other key areas will continue uninterrupted’.
