Mzolisi obtained Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Administration (Honours) degrees from the Universities of Rhodes and Stellenbosch respectively. He is the Chief Executive of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa, a position he has occupied since 1998 when he became the first black person to occupy such a position after more than100 years.
He participated in a number of Black Economic Empowerment initiatives including being a former Commissioner of the BEE Commission and is currently a Trustee of Teba Bank and Chairman of Teba Trust Fund, a controlling shareholder of the bank , the multi-billion Rand Mines Pension Fund (“MPF”), Akani Egoli and Gold Reef Resorts Limited. He is a director of a number of mining industry companies and is accredited for setting up the Black Management Forum Investment Company Limited (BMFI) and being its founding Chairman, a position he held for more than 10 years. He is an Executive Member of the Mining Industries Association of Southern Africa (“MIASA”) and the London based International Council on Mining and Metals (“ICMM”).
He is a partner and a Director of Aurecon, a company that provides engineering, management and services for public and private sector clients globally, Bombela Concession Company, Bombela Operating Company, Bombela Maintenance (Pty) Ltd and Growthpoint Properties Limited, the latter being the largest listed property company in South Africa by market capitalisation and assets, valued at more than R23 billion and over R35 billion respectively.
He is the founding Chairman of Strategic Partners Group (Pty) Ltd (“SPG”) – a broad-based black economic empowerment company which has a 25% equity interest in Bombela Concession Company, the latter being responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of the multi-billion Rand Gautrain Rapid Rail Link Project. |

President of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa and Chief Executive Officer of Exxaro Resources Limited
Sipho Abednego Nkosi was born on 29 April 1954 at Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal. His career has enabled him to develop a depth of experience in the energy and coal sectors both locally and internationally.
He is the CEO of Exxaro Resources Limited, the renamed Kumba Resources Limited, which was re-listed on the JSE Limited in November 2006. Prior to this, Sipho was one of the founders and CEO of Eyesizwe Coal, which merged with Kumba to form Exxaro. Prior to Eyesizwe Coal, Sipho was Country Manager of ABB Alstom Power (SA), having previously worked with Anglo Coal and Ingwe. He was Export Marketing Co-ordinator in the international marketing division of Anglo Coal from 1986 to 1991. In 1992 Sipho joined Ingwe as the Marketing Manager responsible for international coal marketing. This position involved extensive travel and provided him with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the coal industry worldwide.
He serves on a number of company boards including Sanlam and the Canadian mining company Great Basin Gold. Since November 2006 Sipho serves on the Executive Council of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa, having previously served as Chairman of the Chamber’s Collieries Committee.
Sipho holds the following degrees: BCom (University of Zululand), BCom (Hons)(Econ)(Unisa), MBA (University of Massachusetts, Boston) and a Diploma in Marketing Management (Unisa).
Sipho is married to Nondili and has three children. His biggest passion in life is to be involved in charity work and when time permits, he works out in the gym and listens to classical music. |

Vice-president of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa and Chairperson of BHP Billiton South Africa
Dr Mkhwanazi holds a BSc Maths and Physics from the University of Botswana and Swaziland, and completed an MSc and PhD in Applied Physics at the University of Lancaster, UK. He began his career as a lecturer in physics at the University of Swaziland in 1978. During his career he became Head of the Physics Department. He left Swaziland for Perth, Australia during 1988 as a refugee. On his return to South Africa in 1993, he joined the Atomic Energy Corporation as a Senior Scientist in Applied Radiation Technology. He later took a position of Technology Transfer Manager at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). In 1997 the CSIR seconded him to establish the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) which played a key role in the formulation of the National Science and Technology Policy White Paper. In January 1999 he was appointed the CEO of the National Electricity Regulator (NER) where he was tasked with rebuilding it into a reputable Regulatory Authority in Africa.
Dr Mkhwanazi joined the private sector as CEO of the Process Engineering Company, Bateman Africa Limited. In this current position at BHP Billiton, he is the custodian of the BHP Billiton business strategy in South Africa. He oversees the company’s governance compliance with the company’s legal and social requirements and is also responsible for the overall stakeholder management and company positioning in South Africa. He chairs the SA Operational Committee, comprising of the global CSG Presidents of businesses with operations in South Africa, i.e. Aluminium, Energy Coal and Manganese. |

Mark Cutifani was appointed to the Board of AngloGold Ashanti on 17 September 2007 and as Chief Executive Officer on 1 October 2007. He is Chairman of the Executive Committee and a member of a number of its operating and strategic committees.
Mark has considerable experience in mining, having been associated with the industry since 1976. Prior to joining AngloGold Ashanti, he held the position of Chief Operating Officer at CVRD Inco, a Toronto based company, where he was responsible for Inco’s global nickel business and Chief Operating Officer of Inco Ltd in Canada prior to CVRD’s takeover of Inco.
In Australia he held senior executive roles with the Normandy Group, Sons of Gwalia, Western Mining, KCGM and CRA and is a mining engineer by training with several published papers and presentations. In his 32 years in operations and corporate roles he has had responsibilities across 6 continents, more than 25 countries producing more than 20 commodities.
Mark is a member of a number of institutions including BUSA and the ICMM. |
